Premier League Nuggets 2023/24 season

Each week throughout the season The Football Mine will share a couple of choice Premier League Nuggets for your delectation, whetting your appetite for the forthcoming matches.

Week 1

In Week 1 of last season’s Premier League there were four own goals, which set the pace for the third highest number of own goals in a Premier League season with 45. Only two clubs, Everton and Nottingham Forest did not concede an own goal throughout the season.

There were no red cards in the opening week of 2022/23 and only 30 all season, which is the second lowest after 1993/94 when there were 29. For Arsenal, it was the first time in Premier League history that they did not have a player sent off.

A few things to look out for this weekend:

ARSENAL CLEANING UP

If Arsenal keep a clean sheet against Forest they will have played 1,191 PL matches while conceding 1,191 goals and be the only club to have conceded exactly one goal per match.

LEVEL-HEADED BRENTFORD

Entering their third season Brentford have accumulated 105 points, scoring 106 goals so if they draw 0-0 with Spurs they will have scored the same number of goals as points – 106. Alternatively if they score 2 goals and win, the Bees will have scored 108 goals and have 108 points. Bolton Wanderers are the only Premier League club to score exactly the same number of goals as points – 575.

THE ‘B’S HAVE IT

Burnley’s promotion last season means that for the first time since 2010/11 there are four PL clubs beginning with B, but all are different. In 2010/11 the four ‘B’s were Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers, Blackpool and Bolton whereas this season the four ‘B’s are Bournemouth, Brentford, Brighton and Burnley.

If you enjoyed these Nuggets please let others know about it and follow The Football Mine for more of the same and please feel free to send in your own Nuggets.

Until next week…
