Premier League Nuggets 2023/24

6 October MW7

RED MIST

Liverpool’s two red cards on Saturday night took their tally for the season to four in just seven matches, which is as many as they received in over four seasons. The previous four red cards spanned 167 matches and almost five years between James Milner being sent off in January 2019 against Palace and Alexis McAllister’s dismissal against Bournemouth in MW2 (which was later rescinded).

The Reds are only one sending-off away from equalling the most red cards they have ever received [5] in an entire Premier League season, which they did in 2000/01, 2005/06 and 2009/10.

LUTON BREAK TRIO’S DUCK AND BURNLEY FOLLOW

Luton notched their first ever Premier League win at Goodison on Saturday, but with Burnley and Sheffield United both losing the combined total of points for the promoted trio stood at a measly six after 19 matches.

Burnley’s win at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday means the trio have now reached the dizzy heights of nine points after 21 matches and are still on course for the lowest points tally of newly-promoted clubs. Sheffield United remain winless.
