BURNLEY HOME DISCOMFORT

Burnley’s miserable record breaking home form continued in agonising fashion as they led the match against West Ham going into the last few minutes, only to concede an own goal in 86th minute and then another goal in added time. So the Clarets’ form at Turf Moor does not make pretty reading – Played 7 Lost 7, goals for 5, goals against 20.

This is now the equal worst start at home to an English league campaign which they share with Newport County from the 1970/71 season. Newport drew their eighth match at home that season and this Saturday presents a chance for Burnley to get their first home point as they meet the only Premier League club yet to win any of their away games. Their opponents Sheffield United have garnered a single point from their six away matches.

REDS KEEP COMING

The proliferation of sending-offs shows no signs of abating, with Chelsea’s Reece James and Brighton’s Lewis Dunk collecting red cards last week. This was Dunk’s fifth red in his 220th PL match and he now has received the most dismissals of any current player. Dunk still has a way to go to catch up the all-time most reds, held by Richard Dunne, Duncan Ferguson and Patrick Vieira with eight.

This season’s total has already reached 29 in the 130 matches so far. As a comparison this is as many in the entire 1993/94 season, which was a 22-club league and consisted of 462 matches. Last season’s total of 31 red cards will soon be overtaken and the overall record of 75 is still in reach.
