TEENAGE KICKS AS SHEFFIELD UNITED JOIN THE 92 CLUB

On Wednesday night Sheffield United made the bold move of appointing a 19-year-old Academy graduate as captain against Manchester United. It was Oliver Arblaster’s seventh Premier League start and he became the youngest player to lead a side. That’s where the good news ended and the fact that Arblaster became the seventh player to wear the armband this season points to their problematic season.

The never-ending saga of Sheffield United’s misery continued as they reached the 92 mark for goals conceded after losing 4-2 at Old Trafford. In so doing  they overtook the disastrous Derby side of 2007/08 who let in just the 89 and that was after 38 matches, whereas Chris Wilder’s side have blasted past them in a mere 34 games.

The Blades are now a mere eight goals away from joining Swindon as the only teams in Premier League history to reach the dreaded 100. It should be remembered that Swindon did so over 42 matches at an average of 2.4 goals per game, while Sheffield United are doing it in some style at 2.7.

IT STARTED WITH A KICK – Episode 3: Kevin Day

Comedian/writer/podcaster extraordinaire Kevin Day is this week’s guest. As a Palace fan, he recalls the glory of the pristine Don Rogers slaloming through the Selhurst Park mud in February 1973 against Stoke City. He also shares his admiration for Brian Moore and The Big Match; the time he told Gordon Ramsay that his food wasn’t at the same level as a post-match burger and the time when Damien Delaney held Richard Osman to account.
