PREMIER LEAGUE NUGGETS – MatchWeek 12
Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Forest got them back on track after a run of four matches without a victory and unusually this was the only home victory over the weekend. Of those ten matches, six were away wins, which is the highest this season and in all the 110 matches prior to MatchWeek 12 there had been only 31 away wins, or 28%. Another rarity is that the away sides outscored the home teams by 20 to 11.
It Started With a Kick
This week’s guest is Marc Jones, who was one of the four Wimbledon fans who first hatched the idea of starting up a new club after theirs was ripped from them and moved unceremoniously up to Milton Keynes. Marc provides a fascinating insight into the only time ‘franchise football’ has reared its ugly head in English football and why it will never happen again.
Marc’s first match was at the old Plough Lane when they beat Swindon Town 1-0 in 1979. He reveals how when AFC Wimbledon played their first match, a friendly against Sutton United, the kick-off had to be delayed four times because of the sheer volume of spectators.
