Premier League MatchWeek 13/14 Episode 35 ‘It Started With a Kick’

PREMIER LEAGUE NUGGETS – MatchWeek 13/14

BRENTFORD’S HOMESICK BLUES

In beating Leicester 4-1 last weekend Brentford notched up their sixth win at the GTech and their 22nd goal in just seven matches at home. That was quickly followed by their 3-1 loss at Villa Park, which was their sixth defeat away from home out of seven. The disparity in their form is remarkable and illustrated by the fact that they are top of the home table with 19 points as opposed 19th in the away table, with a solitary point and only ahead of bottom-placed Southampton on a goal differential of one.

Last season The Bees had to wait until their fifth home match before recording their first victory and have already won more games at home this season than the whole of last season when they won just five – the three relegated clubs plus West Ham and Forest.

It Started With a Kick – Episode 35

This week’s guest Giles Goford, Global Development Producer at BBC Sport, went on an extraordinary pilgrimage with his father in the late 1980s (see below for a link to Giles’ excellent book Head for the Floodlights). They travelled to all 92 Football League clubs, which was quite an achievement considering Giles’ father was not into football. In the episode he talks about that epic journey but also how he sent his hero Russell Osman an Ipswich Town pencil as a birthday gift and got a letter from Russell. He also explains why Alan Brazil was in a white dressing gown when collecting the UEFA Cup trophy in 1981.
