PREMIER LEAGUE NUGGETS – MatchWeek 22
AWAY THE LADS
Bournemouth’s comprehensive 4-1 victory at St. James’ Park in Saturday’s early kick-off set the trend for some high scoring antics from the away sides. Up until Wolves’ 3-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, each away side scored at least two goals apiece, and altogether they rattled in an impressive 26 in the ten matches, twice as many as the home teams managed.
It is only the third time this season that all the away sides have scored and for comparison 17 goals and 16 goals were notched up in MatchWeeks 3 and 6 respectively.
It Started With a Kick – Episode 41
This week’s episode featured the first musician guest, the Inspiral Carpets’ guitarist Graham Lambert. Graham is an Oldham Athletic fan whose first match was in 1974 at Boundary Park. Playing that day was Alan Groves who had a sideline in furniture removals and actually delivered a 3-piece suite to Graham’s parents house. Quite a claim to fame and he has a few more in the locker. Some 20 years later, Graham filed a match report for the John Peel show on Oldham 2 Norwich 1.
Other highlights include seeing The Latics surviving on the last day of the 1992/93 season (which unfortunately relegated Palace in the process) as well as the Inspirals playing a set at a T20 cricket international at Old Trafford. Lastly, Graham had the unfortunate experience of having to play Rock City Nottingham in the aftermath of Oldham losing to Forest in the League Cup Final, to be met by chants of ‘Brian Clough’s Red and White Army’.
