Premier League Match Week 23 / It Started With a Kick- Episode 42

PREMIER LEAGUE NUGGETS – MatchWeek 23

CHERRY PICKING

Having trounced Newcastle at St. James’ Park the previous week, courtesy of a Justin Kluivert hat-trick, Bournemouth followed up with a 5-0 hammering of Nottingham Forest, a team that had one of the meanest defences in the division. There was a second consecutive hat-trick for the Cherries this time from Dango Ouatarra and that is the third treble they have recorded this season after Kluivert’s hat-trick against Wolves.

With three hat-tricks in the space of thirteen matches they have almost doubled their tally for the Premier League. Bournemouth had notched four hat-tricks in their previous 275 Premier League outings, which came at a rate of one every 69 matches whereas now they are coming once every four games.

It Started With a Kick – Episode 42

Next up in the hot seat is Damian Johnson, who has spent most of his broadcasting career with the BBC, including stints on Match of the Day, Football Focus and repairing from major tournaments such as AFCON, Euros and World Cups. His first match came in the short-lived competition called the Watney Cup as Hull City hosted Manchester United in 1970. This match featured the first penalty shoot-out in English football but unfortunately for Damian, United beat Hull after their keeper Ian McKechnie missed his spot kick.

Among the highlights of this episode Damian tells us how McKechnie used to have oranges thrown to him by the spectators at Boothferry Park because of his fondness for the fruit. Talking of having objects thrown from the stands, Damian also tells us when he was pitch side for an AFCON match in Mali he was bombarded by parts of a transistor radio when the home side scored.
