Premier League Matchweek 28 / Episode 48 of ‘It Started With a Kick’

Premier League MatchWeek 28

TERRIBLE TRIO TROUBLES

Another week goes by and another pointless week goes by for the three clubs beginning to be marooned at the bottom of the table. Between them those clubs have only managed nine wins in 84 matches, with only two victories in 2025 and one of those was for Southampton at Ipswich. Leicester did win at Tottenham but then again so did Ipswich back in November.

Their total of 43 points is six lower than last season’s three promoted clubs at the same stage and the aggregate goal difference of – 117 tells its own tale. Southampton are still two points shy of Derby’s record low and with ten games to go there is still a chance they might go into the history books for all the wrong reasons.

It Started With a Kick – Episode 48

Dan Jackson is this week’s guest, Dan is an academic and author who specialises in the history of the North East of England. In the week that Newcastle United try to break their trophy curse by overcoming Liverpool in the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday, Dan recalls some of the lighter moments of the club’s history.

Tales includes Paul Gascoigne firing at Jimmy ‘Five Bellies’ bottom until it resembled a watering can, the time when the team managed to concede a goal when there was no opposition and the reassuring fact that Newcastle has by far the most pubs within a mile radius of its ground St. James Park than any other English club.
