Premier League Nuggets MatchWeek 36/ ‘It Started With a Kick’ Episodes 56 and 57

PREMIER LEAGUE NUGGETS – MatchWeek 36

PLUS CA CHANGE

With Tottenham and Manchester United continuing their dismal form by both losing at home they have now racked up 37 defeats between them this season. Indeed Spurs’ 20 losses is the same as Fulham a few years ago, who were relegated and there are still two games remaining. Of course the pair have the Europa League final on Wednesday to rescue their seasons but this would very much be a turd polishing exercise rather than some form of redemption.

They have been fortunate that the bottom three have been so abject. Despite Southampton celebrating overtaking Derby’s record low by reaching 12 points with their draw against Manchester City, the trio are still 10 points shy of last season’s total. They have only eleven wins compared to fourteen of 2023/24 and the expectation is that they will fall short and come the lowest of the low.

‘It Started With a Kick’ Episode 56 : Tom Whalley

Tom is a producer/audio designer and amongst the many programmes he produces is the Huey Show on BBC6 Music (Morgan/FLC), he also works on a range of podcasts including the venerable ‘Football Ramble’, aka the daddy of football podcasts. Tom’s a Forest fan and among the many things he loves is  Lars Bohinen who scored in Tom’s first game against Palace, his walk to the City Ground along the Trent and the fact that the fans adopted a Shakira song when they stayed up a couple of seasons ago and sang to all the way through the last match against Palace.

Episode 57 : Michael Hamlen

Michael may not be a household name but he is the man behind the popular 80s&90sFootball account, which offers daily dips into the vast reservoir of football nostalgia so is an ideal guest on this podcast. Michael’s first televised match just happened to be the Liverpool Arsenal league decider in 1989 and also reveals that his mum threw out all his match programmes and his Subbuteo set a few years ago, somehow he has forgiven her. One of his first heroes was Sergei Gutsmanov who went from appearing in 1988 European Championship Final to playing for Brighton in Second Division a few years later.
