Premier League Nuggets – Match Week 38
And another season is done and dusted, with this one having little jeopardy for the last few weeks after the relegation and title issues were decided long ago. Liverpool’s march to the title proved inexorable and the 10-point gap between them and Arsenal underlined their dominance, especially when they only took two points from their last four matches once the title was secured.
On the last day the relegated clubs all lost, which was symptomatic of their collective failures throughout the season. They ended up with a paltry 59 points between them, seven points behind last season’s hapless trio which was a record low in itself and by a margin of ten points so that puts into perspective the depths that have been plumbed by Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton . They only mustered a dozen wins between them, another all-time low by the bottom three.
But let’s not dwell on their misery, here’s a Premier League quiz I helped compile for the Guardian so you can test your knowledge of last season – https://bit.ly/4mxg22Q

It Started With a Kick – Episode 59 : Lionel Birnie
Lionel is a sports writer/journalist, covering both football and cycling. Indeed Lionel is no stranger to the world of podcasts, having co-founded The Cycling Podcast back in 2013 when ‘It Started With a Kick’ wasn’t even a twinkle in the eye. Lionel has also written several books including ghostwriting the autobiography of the late, great Graham Taylor. No surprise that many of his recollections centre around Taylor including the 1999 Play-Offs final victory which made up for disappointment of FA Cup final loss to Everton in 1984. One of Lionel’s heroes was master maverick Mo Johnston and talking of Scotland, Lionel talks about completing a cycling journey taking in all the Scottish league grounds.
