It Started With a Kick Episode 66 – Rory Bryce

Rory Bryce runs the Football Heritage website and the accompanying podcast, with the aim of promoting and highlighting the best of football’s past, present and future while shining a light on the untold stories and forgotten history of the beautiful game. So Rory proved to be the ideal guest for this pod as we dipped back into his personal history.

We start at Hampden Park for Scotland against the mighty San Marino, in March 2001. Colin Hendry had an eventful match, bagging two of his overall tally of three international goals before getting sent off for elbowing a player in what proved to be his last appearance for the national team. From Hampden Park we move to Stair Park, home of Stranraer FC who hammer Albion Rovers 5-0, in front of a crowd of 480.

Rory also talks about sanitisation of Premier League and how a club like Palace buck the trend via the only true ultras in English football and how Scottish football is much more dependent on supporters with the highest attendance per capita of any major European league. He also highlights the quality of Celtic’s former Japanese star Shunsuke Nakamura and his ability at free-kicks.
