It Started With a Kick Episode 74 : Martin Cloake

Martin Cloake is one of most respected contemporary football writers, including his regular musings on the prevalent issues of today’s game under the title of The Football Fan on good old Substack. Martin has written A whole raft of books, with a fair few on his beloved Tottenham including “Still Dreaming: Another Year in the Life of a Premier League club”. Therefore it will be no great surprise that Martin’s first match was at White Hart Lane, but it was 1978 and Spurs were in the Second Division, a top-of-the-table clash against Bolton Wanderers.

Martin reveals how he almost became a QPR when he was younger but not unusually they lost so he turned to Spurs. His first hero was Steve Perryman who plays din that first match against Bolton and vowed to return the club to the top flight after they had been relegated and he delivered. Topically, he turns his attention to the thorny issue of owners, the week after Daniel Levy left the club.
