It Started with a Kick Episode 83 : Adrian Durham

Adrian Durham began his broadcasting career in Leeds in the early 1990s working on the TEAMtalk telephone service, a rival to Clubcall, which a previous guest on this pod, Gideon Coe, also worked on. Adrian joined talkSPORT in 1999 and has been with them ever since, a small matter of 26 years and is now the lead anchor for talkSPORT’s live football coverage.

Born and bred in Peterborough, Adrian is a Posh fan and his first match was at London Road – a five-goal thriller with home side coming out 3-2 winners against Shrewsbury Town. In that match Chris Turner played and in his long association with the club he fulfilled a variety of roles including being manager, owner and commercial manager. One of Adrian’s most memorable moments was seeing Peterborough wining the 1992 Division 3 Play-Offs final with a magnificent Ken Charlery goal in 89th minute.

His first commentary was covering Hartlepool against Cambridge in October 1989 with two future internationals playing. Don Hutchison, for the home side, and Dion Dublin, who went on to score the first Play-Offs goal at Wembley for Cambridge at the end of this season. Adrian’s first England commentary match was in September 1999 when England hammered Luxembourg 6-0 with Alan Shearer scoring his only hat-trick for the national side.
