It Started With a Kick Episode 84 : Steve Perryman
Steve Perryman is a Tottenham legend with a glittering career spanning 17 years, making the small matter of 854 appearances for the club and it will be no surprise that is a record number of matches and one that will never be matched. He also captained Spurs for 11 years and got his hands on a fair few trophies in his time but his first taste of football was at Loftus Road and Griffin Park with his elder brothers.
When Perryman joined Spurs he got simple instructions from Bill Nicholson – ‘quick, easy and accurate’, which stood him in good stead. He recalls after scoring two cracking goals against AC Milan in 1972 UEFA Cup semi 1st leg how the club doctor told him Nicholson almost left him out of the side. He also reveals how he learned that the focus should always be on ‘the next minute’.
Whatever your allegiances, even if you are an Arsenal fan, this cracking episode is well worth a listen.
