It Started With a Kick Episode 95 : Mike Bovill
Mike Bovill has worked at SkySports and talkSPORT as a producer and editor for many years across a range of sports and in a first for this podcast he is the PA announcer, not for a football club, but for Harlequins rugby club. Mike’s an Arsenal fan whose first entry into a football ground was on 1st May 1986 in North London, but not at Highbury. It was at White Hart Lane against Inter Milan, led by Liam Brady, for Ossie Ardiles’ testimonial and he can be forgiven as one Diego Maradona was playing that night.
Mike also recounts missing out on a couple of big Arsenal games because of family commitments, including the 1987 League Cup victory over Liverpool and the extraordinary win at Anfield in May 1989 to secure the First Division title, which he only found about the next day as he was on holiday in Crete.

It Started With a Kick Episode 96 : Adam Powley
Adam is a writer, academic and the author of over twenty books including a series under the generic title “When Football Was Football” with editions on World Cup, Legends and even his beloved Tottenham Hotspur. Strangely, in a reversal of the previous guest Mike Bovill’s experience, Adam’s first entry into a ground for a first team match was not at the North London club he supported but at Highbury when he was taken along by his neighbour who had captained Arsenal many years before.
Adam first started going to reserve matches at White Hart Lane where his dad was one of the turnstile operators. Unfortunately at one of these matches he was witness to some vile racist behaviour towards Chris Hughton which shook Adam to his core. His first taste of first team matches was in 1978 when Spurs were a Second Division team, having been relegated the previous season. But soon Adam was enjoying FA Cup success and the European nights accompanied by the glories of discos on Tottenham High Road.
