It Started With a Kick Episode 97 : Charlotte Nicol

Charlotte has been at the heart of BBC Sport for the last few decades, having started as a producer in 1990 and clocking up half a dozen World Cups plus European Championships alongside the regular domestic league programme through Match of the Day. This stint also included her being the main producer covering England over 18 years. Her first match report was at Bootham Crescent and involved a scuffle between two York City players in the tunnel after the game.

Charlotte grew up in Leicestershire and her first foray into the world of football was at Filbert Street in 1972 when Stoke City were the visitors with ex-Leicester player Gordon Banks in goal for the visitors and his replacement Peter Shilton as the home keeper. Soon after that first game she became a programme seller which gave her free access to the matches. One of her first heroes was Alan Birchenall, who still works at the club some fifty years later as an ambassador.
