World Cup Nuggets Day 13

The Round of 16 started with relatively straightforward wins for Netherlands and Argentina who now meet in a mouth-watering encounter in the quarter-finals on Friday.

DUTCH CONSISTENCY – The Dutch have now reached at least the last eight in seven of their last nine appearances. The Oranje have not lost in 90 minutes in 18 consecutive World Cup matches, their only defeats coming after extra time in the 2010 final against Spain and on penalties in the 2014 semi-final against none other than Argentina.

MESSI FINALLY BREAKS HIS DUCK – Lionel Messi scored his first goal in a World Cup knock-out match against Australia in their 2-1 victory. The match also featured the third own goal of 2022 when Enzo Fernandez deflected an Australian shot past Martinez. All three own gaols have come in wins for Morocco, Germany and Argentina.
