Ian will be a familiar voice to many as he’s a regular commentator on talkSPORT. Having started in local radio with BRMB, originally with comedy sketches, Ian then went on to doing match reports on West Midlands clubs for BRMB & Capital Gold before moving to talkSPORT in 2004. Not only has he covered domestic football but several major tournaments including World Cups and Euros. His journey as a Birmingham City fan is full of twists and turns, mostly downwards but the odd moment in the sunshine.
He describes his first game at St. Andrews in 1974 as “the perfect introduction to supporting the Blues’ as Birmingham lost 3-0 to Stoke with former player Jimmy Greenhoff scoring twice. In happier times he saw John Gayle score ‘two of the best goals scored at the national stadium’ in Leyland Day final in 1991, although he does admit he was slightly fiddly for the only time at a football match. Fast forward twenty years anI an is back at Wembley for League Cup final where a fan takes his friend’s ashes to the game in an urn.
