‘It Started With a Kick’ Episode 80 – Graham Hunter

It Started With a Kick Episode 80 : Graham Hunter

This week’s guest is Graham Hunter who is the fount of all knowledge on Spanish football matters, in fact what Graham doesn’t know about futbol could be written on a postage stamp with something to spare. He has written several books including ‘Barca’ in 2012 on the team that Pepe Guardiola built and ‘Spain’ on the side that won three titles in a row from 2008 to 2012. On the rare occasions I have written about Spanish football I have tapped into Graham’s encyclopaedic knowledge.

However, Graham’s initial steps into football were many a mile from the Iberian  peninsula, a reserve match at Pittodrie featuring Jimmy ‘Jinky’ Smith. Another hero of his was Charlie Cooke who changed into his football kit while juggling a ball to announce his arrival at Chelsea in 1966. He also tells us how Alex Ferguson worked for six months without a contract when he took over Aberdeen in 1978. Graham also shared a few beers with Ferguson and other Scottish managers at the World Cup in Spain and being with Marc Bosman when the Bosman ruling was made public.
