After the opening two Premier League matches and two defeats, Palace are pointless so immediately my mind turned to a quote from my favourite Shakespeare play, King Lear.
‘Nothing will come of nothing : speak again’
In the context of the Palace allegory, the fans are beseeching Pierre Sage to give them something at Craven Cottage this weekend. I am not sure of Sage’s depth of Shakespearean knowledge but to reiterate this line comes in the opening scene when Lear [Steve Parish] asks his three daughters to express their love for him as he divides up his kingdom. The two eldest, Goneril [Everton] and Regan [Man City], kowtow to their father with obsequious ease as they want to have as much power as possible. The youngest daughter Cordelia [Fulham] is loath to pander to her father’s wishes and when asked to join in the public display of flattery she replies ‘Nothing, my Lord’. This exasperates her father who pushes her to offer up some flattery but she refuses.
And so can Sage break his duck against Fulham or will he be banished from the kingdom?
