Saturday Morning Nuggets 27/08

  1. Liverpool’s defeat at Old Trafford confirmed their worst start to a Premier League season since 2012/13 when they lost two of their first three matches, drawing the other one.
  2. Arsenal have only twice won their opening three Premier League matches – in The Invincibles season of 2003/04 when they won the first four, and the following season when they won the first five.
  3. West Ham’s visit to Villa Park will be their 1,000th Premier League match, they become the 9th club to reach that landmark. They have won almost exactly a third with 335 victories.
  4. In their 999 matches to date West Ham have an overall goal difference of -199, which is exactly the same as Fulham’s.
  5. Only five clubs have a negative goal difference of more than 200: Sunderland – 292, West Brom – 262, Norwich – 255, Watford – 208 and Southampton – 206.
  6. West Ham have lost their first three Premier League matches on three other occasions – 2010/11, 2017/18, 2018/19.
  7. This is the first time in Premier League history that neither Merseyside has won any of their opening 3 matches.
