It Started with a Kick Episode 112 – John Roder and a World Cup Quiz

It Started With a Kick Episode 112 : John Roder

John Roder is this week’s guest who joins a glittering list of commentators on this pod, which include Guy Mowbray, Peter Drury, John Helm and most recently Mike Minay. John has been at the chalk face of commentary with a host of broadcasters such as Sky, TNT, ITV and has been a regular on Match of the Day for two decades.

As a six year-old, John was so captivated by the 1970 World Cup Final that he wrote match reports in his school exercise book along with some illustrations [see pic]. From the glistening Azteca and that incredible Brazil team the first game he attended later that year could have hardly been a bigger contrast as Aldershot met Darlington at the Recreation Ground for a 4th Division fixture.

World Cup and Football 7th Heaven Daily Quiz

During the World Cup, we will not be running any episodes as there’s going to be so much going on that there will hardly be enough room to breathe. The good news is that there is an extensive archive of 112 episodes to dip into and we will be back after 19th July.

But fear not I will be busy posing a daily question throughout the tournament on the Football 7th Heaven app which you can get either on

the App Store https://apple.co/3QzDhOo

or on Google Play – https://bit.ly/3Rs3VZN

And for those of you who are not App friendly you can get access online – https://bit.ly/3PIWWey

So enjoy the World Cup and let’s all hope that the joy of football overcomes the issues that have beset the build-up thanks to the Scylla and Charybdis of 2026 Trump and Infantino.
