It Started With a Kick Episode 111 : Mike Minay

Mike Minay is a commentator and reporter who has become a regular voice on 5Live and also Match of the Day recently and Mike will be part of the BBC’s World Cup team which starts next week, so exciting times ahead.

Mike’s first steps into the world of football were a long way from the grand arenas of World Cups, at the likes of Congleton Town and Macclesfield Town, Yeovil and Bristol City. Following Bristol City, Mike went to Wembley in 2008 to watch Dean Windass score one of the great Play-Offs goals.

The first big match he went to was at Maine Road in 2001 when the not so mighty Manchester City lost 4-0 to Wimbledon in the second tier under Kevin Keegan. His first live commentary was Dover Athletic 3 Welling United 2 when he managed to unplug himself as the winning goal was scored. This season Mike commentated on 119 matches and the only goalless draw and by far the worst match was Palace’s 0-0 draw with Larnaca in UEFA Conference League but as we all know that ended well….
