And so it ends with Spain winning their second World Cup, a victory for a proper football team playing proper football. Their opponents in the Final behaved disgracefully throughout the match and in the post-match furore. Argentina are the definition of bad losers, in fact they have taken it to new lows with their aggression coupled their lack of grace. I’m not sure that any World Cup Final has had such an overwhelming majority of neutrals rooting for one side apart from the Messi fanboys.
As for England, much has been written and said, but my overwhelming feeling is a mixture of a smidgeon of progress – 5 minutes from the Final and some tricky games negotiated. Allied to this is regret that Thomas Tuchel declared that ‘ we would go for it’ and if the last 55 minutes of the semi was going for it then I would hate to see us not doing so. Tuchel also said he ‘had no regrets’ which is at odds with the players and the fans.
