‘It Started With a Kick’ Episode 120 : Johnny Nicholson

This week’s guest is Johnny Nicholson, who recently announced he was calling an end to his time at F365 after 26 years of weekly columns, which amounts to over 3,000 pieces. His last column called for the abolition of the Premier League and a complete reset for English football which I’m sure many of us would agree has merit after the shenanigans of the last few months.

John’s first foray into football was to watch Middlesbrough take on Hull City (a game that was replicated in this year’s Championship Play-Offs Final) so it’s off to Ayresome Park we go in 1972, on what I assumed was a foggy Saturday afternoon in September, but was disappointingly sunny according to Johnny. He recalls the ridiculous 2006 UEFA Cup run that was characterised by mad comebacks and that Massimo Maccarone moment.
