‘It Started With a Kick’ Episode 121: Matt Gooderick

Matt Gooderick is one of the hosts of the ‘You Are My Oxford’ podcast so will be no great surprise that our focus will be Oxford United. While Matt’s first full game was extraordinary and which is explored in full detail, but Matt did have a few sneak previews of his beloved Oxford United before that full match in November 1985 by being sneaked into the Manor Ground with 20 minutes to go.

Much of the focus is understandably on the 1986 Milk Cup triumph, Oxford’s only major trophy, and how it was such a major achievement for a club that only joined the league 24 years beforehand. We also cover the move from the Manor Ground to the Kazzam as well as other trips to Wembley for the three Play-Offs Finals from 2010 National League win to the 2024 League One victory over Bolton.
