‘It Started With a Kick’ Episode 107 – Mark Davison

It Started With a Kick Episode 107 : Mark Davison

Mark Davison is one of the first comedians we have had on this pod, Kevin Day being the first. Mark’s alter ego is Ian Fiveankles, a hoary ex-footballer who has little truck with the modern game. He is also one of the Exploding Heads duo and finally many of you will know him as the ranting, raging Colin from Portsmouth

As for Mark’s early football steps, he began with a trip to Wembley for an England Schoolboys international in 1983 and went to occasionally watch Dover, his local club whose ground was aptly carved into a cliff. He talks his early mercies of 1982 World Cup especially Bryan Robson’s early goal against France and also about his penchant for goalless draws. During the mid-1990s he was a frequent visitor to Stamford Bridge and watched the goalless draw (naturally) with Tottenham that inspired Jose Mourinho’s ‘parking the bus’ line.

But it’s not all about 0-0s, he was at Anfield for Liverpool’s remarkable renaissance against Barcelona in 2019 Champions League semi-final and we even manage to slip in a Football 7th Heaven question about last season’s Tottenham 3 Liverpool 6 goal fest.
